Explore the Natural Beauty and Countryside Experiences Around Hoi An
Nestled along the picturesque coastline of central Vietnam, Hoi An enchants travellers with its timeless beauty, rich history, and vibrant cultural tapestry. This ancient town, recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, not only beckons visitors with its narrow streets and eclectic architecture but also with its rich surrounding natural landscapes and eco-experiences. While wandering through the town and nearby countryside, here are five natural attractions that showcase the greener, quieter side of Hoi An.
1/ Hoi An's Beaches
Since Cua Dai and An Bang beaches in Hoi An face East, it's the ideal spot to start your day with a spectacular sunrise. You'll enjoy the peaceful nature and stunning scenery as the sun begins its journey. With pristine white sand, gentle waves, crystal-clear water, and magnificent views of the Cu Lao Cham Islands, Hoi An’s beaches promise an unforgettable experience.
2/ Cham Island
Cu Lao Cham (Cham Island) is a group of islands located around 15 kilometres offshore from Hoi An. The island group consists of seven small islands: Hon Lao, Hon Dai, Hon Mo, Hon Tai, Hon Nom, Hon La, and Hon Kho. The weather on Cu Lao Cham is generally cool throughout the year, and the islands are home to diverse plant and marine life. Bird nests, seafood, and coral reefs are important natural resources found here.
UNESCO recognised Cham Island as a World Biosphere Reserve in 2009, highlighting its ecological importance and biodiversity. Today, Cham Island is particularly popular for snorkelling, diving, hiking, and experiencing traditional fishing village life, as well as enjoying freshly caught local seafood.
3/ Tam Thanh Mural Village
Located approximately 40 kilometres south of Hoi An, Tam Thanh Mural Village is a vibrant and colourful community art project depicting everyday life in Quang Nam Province. In 2016, Tam Thanh was selected for a Korean–Vietnamese initiative called “Art For A Better Community,” transforming it into Vietnam’s first large-scale mural village.
The murals are inspired by local life, featuring fishermen heading out to sea, children playing in village streets, and imaginative artistic scenes that bring colour to houses, fishing boats, and community buildings. Today, Tam Thanh offers visitors a unique blend of coastal scenery, community storytelling, and contemporary Vietnamese art culture.
4/ Tra Que Village
Tra Que Vegetable Village, located just 3 kilometres from Hoi An Ancient Town, spans more than 40 hectares of fertile farmland. For nearly 400 years, local families have practised traditional crop rotation and intercropping, cultivating over 20 varieties of leafy vegetables and herbs.
Situated between the De Vong River and Tra Que Lagoon, the village benefits from nutrient-rich soil and abundant water sources. Farmers use a unique fertilisation technique involving seaweed collected from the Co Co River, helping produce exceptionally fresh and organic vegetables.
Visitors can experience daily farming life by planting herbs, enjoying herbal footbaths, joining cooking classes, or simply cycling through peaceful farmland landscapes at sunset.
5/ Bay Mau Coconut
Bay Mau Coconut Forest, located in Cam Thanh Village just a few kilometres from Hoi An Old Town, is one of the area’s most popular eco-tourism destinations. The lush nipa palm forest forms a unique saltwater ecosystem that supports shrimp, crab, molluscs, and many bird species, while also acting as a natural water filtration system.
Historically, the forest played an important role during the Vietnam War, providing shelter for local resistance forces. Today, it is best known for traditional basket boat experiences, where local guides paddle visitors through winding waterways while demonstrating fishing techniques, net casting, and local river life.
The area also offers insight into everyday farming and fishing culture, making it one of the most interactive nature experiences near Hoi An.
Exploring these locations offers visitors a deeper understanding of the region’s environment, culture, and traditional ways of life. Join one of our HoiAnGO Adventure Tours to experience these locations comfortably and at a relaxed pace, with local insight guiding your journey.
